A regular air fryer makes everything crispy, but chicken breast often comes out a bit dry. That's why the Xiaomi Mijia Smart Steam Air Fryer 7L adds steam to the hot air. This way the outside gets crispy while the inside stays juicy. With a 7-litre capacity, ten cooking functions and even sous-vide, it replaces half a countertop of appliances in one go.
A 900 W steam generator produces 130 °C steam while the hot air circulates around your food. The 1.5-litre water tank sits on top and is good for about 90 minutes of steaming. Condensation stays inside, so there's no drip tray to empty.
The basket fits a whole chicken or 800 grams of fries, and with the rack you can cook on two layers. Through the 7-inch viewing window you can see how far along your food is. On the display you can choose from 25 recipes, with over 100 more in the Xiaomi Home app.

Water tank on top for 90 minutes of steam
The water tank sits on top of the device and holds 1.5 litres. One full tank is good for around 90 minutes of steaming. According to Xiaomi, that's enough for two bowls of root vegetables and five portions of broccoli.
Fill the tank with purified or cooled boiled water. Water with a lot of lime will eventually leave deposits in the steam system. For maintenance, the device has a cleaning programme for the water line.
You use the tank for steaming, the combi setting, sous-vide and reheating. For regular air frying it stays empty. Then the 7L works like a normal air fryer with an 1,800 W heating element.
Seven-liter capacity with viewing window
The 7-liter basket fits a whole chicken, 800 grams of fries or 24 chicken wings. With the included rack you cook two layers at once, for example meat on the bottom and vegetables on top.
Through the 7-inch viewing window you can see how far along your food is without pulling open the basket. If you do pull the basket out, the program pauses. As soon as the basket is back in, it continues.
The inside is made of 304 stainless steel and the basket has a non-stick coating without PFAS. The basket, baking tray and grill rack are dishwasher safe. After cooking, the device keeps your food warm for another 30 minutes.
Ten cooking functions, from sous-vide to drying
The temperature range runs from 30 to 230 °C. That means the 7L does more than just air frying: steaming, the combi mode, baking, sous-vide, extra crispy, fermenting, drying, defrosting and reheating.
With sous-vide you cook meat or fish for a long time at a low, constant temperature, using steam from the tank. The fermenting mode keeps dough at the right temperature so it rises, and with drying you make your own dried fruit or meat.
On the LCD display you use the dial to choose from 25 pre-programmed recipes. In the Xiaomi Home app there are over 100. With the scheduling function you can set up to 24 hours in advance what time your food should be ready.
