Full bass and clear voices
Each earbud of the Xiaomi Buds 6 houses an 11 mm driver with three magnets. That gives the bass more power than the two magnets in the Buds 5. The diaphragm has a thin layer of 24-karat gold, which makes high tones like voices and cymbals sound crisper.
Harman's audio team helped shape the sound. In the Xiaomi Earbuds app you can choose between two profiles: AudioEFX sounds clear and light, Harman Master warmer with more percussion. Prefer something different? There are also modes ready for extra bass or clear voices, and you can set the equalizer yourself.
On top of that, the earbuds measure how your ear canal reflects the sound and adjust the low and mid tones accordingly. That way a song sounds the same, whether the earbuds sit a bit looser or tighter. This feature is on by default.

Music without quality loss
Bluetooth normally compresses music, which means details get lost. With aptX Lossless, that doesn't happen: the earbuds receive up to 2.1 Mbps in 24-bit, about six times more data than with a regular connection. What's on the recording is exactly what reaches your ears.
Your phone does need to support this technology. That's the case for recent Xiaomi and POCO devices, such as the Xiaomi 15, 17 and 14 Ultra and the POCO F7 Pro. Xiaomi will add more models later. You turn it on with two settings on your phone; you can read which ones below under the setup section.
Got an iPhone or another device? Then the earbuds connect via AAC or SBC, like most earbuds. The Harman tuning and the Hi-Res certification stay exactly the same.

Less background noise, voices stay audible
Active noise cancellation removes the constant sounds around you, like the hum of a train or the chatter in the office. Voices and a car horn, however, it lets through. So on the street, you'll still hear what's going on. A long press on the stem turns noise cancellation on or off.
It helps during calls too. Three microphones filter your voice out of the noise, even at 95 dB of ambient sound according to Xiaomi. Wind up to 12 m/s is cancelled out, so you stay understandable on your bike or on a windy platform.
The Buds 6 sit halfway in your ear and don't have silicone tips. That makes them lighter to wear, but they seal off your ear less than in-ear tips. If you're after as much silence as possible, take a look at the Buds 5 Pro in the comparison below.

Control without reaching for your phone
Swipe up or down on the stem and the volume follows along. Press once to pause the music or answer a call, press twice to skip to the next track. You can customize which action goes with which gesture in the Xiaomi Earbuds app.
The earbuds can record too. Tap the case three times and they'll record a call, meeting or lecture. In the app you turn on spatial audio: with head tracking the sound stays in place as you turn your head, handy for movies and series. Assign a long press to the camera and you can snap a group photo from a distance with the earbud.
Thanks to Bluetooth 5.4, the earbuds connect to two devices at once. If a call comes in on your phone while you're watching something on your laptop, they switch over automatically. On Android you pair them with a single tap via Fast Pair the moment you open the case.
