Night vision without the red glow

The infrared light works at 940 nm, a wavelength you can't see with the naked eye. So there's no red light glowing in the bedroom. Yet the image stays sharp in the dark.

Notifications for motion and sound

The camera recognizes people, cats and dogs, crying babies and loud sounds like breaking glass. You get an instant notification on your phone. You can turn these features on yourself in the app.

Two-way audio with noise cancellation

Through the app, you can talk back via the built-in speaker. The microphone picks up what's being said clearly from up to about 5 metres away. That way you can reassure a child or call the dog to order.

Storage on microSD, NAS or cloud

Recordings are stored on a microSD card up to 512 GB or saved to your own NAS, with no mandatory subscription. Prefer the cloud? That's possible too, via an encrypted connection. Dual-band WiFi 6 keeps the live view smooth.

The base of the C401 has two motors. The camera rotates 360° and tilts 101° up and down, so a single camera covers an entire room. Using the app, you can steer it to every corner remotely.

When the camera spots a person, it automatically turns to follow. That way you won't be looking the wrong way in the footage when someone walks through the room.

You can place it on a cabinet or shelf. With the included mounting kit, you can attach it to the wall or upside down on the ceiling. In the latter case, you simply flip the image in the Xiaomi Home app.

2560 x 1440 pixels

2.5K image with a 4 MP camera

The C401 records in 2560 x 1440 pixels with a 4-megapixel camera. That's noticeably more detail than a full HD camera, enough to recognize a face on the other side of the room too.

This makes zooming in on the live feed work better. You can see whether your child is asleep in the crib or awake, and exactly what the cat knocked off the table.

The footage is processed on the MJA1 chip inside the camera itself. So the recognition of people and sounds happens locally. Only what you store in the cloud leaves your home, via an encrypted connection.

Does the Xiaomi Smart Camera C401 come with a plug?

No. The box includes a 2-meter USB cable, but no adapter. Use a USB charger that delivers 5V and 2A, for example a phone charger.

Do you need a subscription for the Xiaomi Smart Camera C401?

No. You store recordings on a microSD card or on your own NAS. Cloud storage is optional and paid. However, the Xiaomi Home app does offer 7 days of free cloud storage during the first three months.

Which microSD card fits the Xiaomi Smart Camera C401?

A card from 8 to 512 GB, formatted as FAT32, Class 10 or higher and intended for video recording. The card is not included in the box.

Can you mount the Xiaomi Smart Camera C401 on the ceiling?

Yes. With the included mounting kit (base, two screws and two plugs) you can hang it on the wall or upside down from the ceiling. Then you just flip the image in the Xiaomi Home app.

Can you use the Xiaomi Smart Camera C401 outdoors?

No, the C401 is an indoor camera. It works at temperatures from -10 °C to 40 °C and is not waterproof.

How do you turn on notifications for baby crying and loud sounds?

These features are off by default. You turn them on in the Xiaomi Home app, under the camera's AI settings. There you also select person and pet detection.
