Do you need to register a home battery?

Yes, you have to register a home battery as soon as it reaches the legal power limit. Below you'll read which batteries fall under this, where and how to register them, and what happens if you skip that step.

Which home battery do you have to register?

You have to register a home battery if it's connected to the power grid and has a power output of 0.8 kW (800 watts) or more. That applies to every home battery, whether permanently wired or with a plug. Connected to the power grid means the battery is linked to the public grid through your home's electrical installation.

When it comes to that limit, pay attention to the difference between kW and kWh. The power in kW determines whether you have to register; the storage capacity in kWh plays no role in this. So a compact 2 kWh battery with a power output of 0.8 kW simply falls under the registration requirement.

Register a plug-in home battery from 800 watts

A plug-in home battery needs to be registered from 800 watts, just like a permanently wired one. According to RVO, batteries with a plug usually stay below that limit, but that's far from true for every model.

The Zendure SolarFlow 800 Pro, for example, delivers 800 watts to the grid and therefore already falls under the registration requirement. So anyone considering a plug-in home battery can't automatically assume that registration doesn't apply.

Multiple home batteries at a single address

With multiple home batteries at a single address, the total power counts. Two systems of 0.6 kW each add up to 1.2 kW, which means you have to register them, even though each device individually stays below the limit.

Why do you have to register a home battery?

You have to register a home battery because the grid operator needs to be able to account for the power your battery draws and feeds back. A battery does both: it charges and can feed power back again. That's why batteries fall under the European grid codes RfG (Requirements for Generators) and DCC (Demand Connection Code), and the ACM endorses this.

With the registrations, grid operators gain insight into where batteries are located and how much power they have. They use that information to, among other things, prevent local overloads - known as grid congestion - and to prepare the electricity grid for more storage and sustainable energy.

Where do you register a home battery?

You register a home battery via Energieleveren.nl, the joint registration site of the Dutch grid operators. So you don't have to figure out first which grid operator covers your address. If your battery also offers demand response, where it temporarily uses more or less power on request, a separate DCC installation document applies as well.

Details Energieleveren.nl asks about your home battery

During registration, you enter the brand and type of the inverter, the inverter power in kW, the power and capacity of your home battery, and the date it was put into use.

You'll find these values on the type plate, in the manual or in your model's specifications. If your brand or type isn't in the dropdown list, choose 'Other' and enter the details manually.

Register your home battery on Energieleveren.nl in four steps

While doing so, you create a personal account linked to your address and meter number. Keep your battery's details handy and you'll complete the registration in one go. Registering your home battery takes four steps:

  1. Fill in your address: enter your postcode, house number, the last digits of your meter number and your contact details.
  2. Confirm email address: you'll receive an email with a link to continue the registration.
  3. Register installation: choose a new installation, select the home battery and fill in the technical details.
  4. Receive confirmation: after submitting, you'll get a confirmation by email.

Your meter number is on the housing of the electricity meter. With those digits you prove that you're authorised to register an installation for that address.

When do you register your home battery?

You register your home battery after you've put it into use, once it's connected and working. If you're still getting up to speed, first check out our guide on connecting a home battery and schedule the registration right after that step, so it doesn't slip through the cracks.

Did you register your battery before 7 May 2024? Then you need to re-enter it. Only then is it properly listed in the national database. If you expand your system later with extra battery modules or a second unit, update your registration then too. You do this in the overview of your installations, but only on a computer and not via your phone.

What happens if you don't register your home battery?

If you don't register your home battery, you're not meeting the registration obligation. In practice, there are no fines for this at the moment. Partly because of that, grid operators estimate that only 30 to 40 percent of installed home batteries are registered.

The fact that it's not being enforced right now doesn't make registering optional. Without registration, the grid operator has an incomplete picture of your connection, and that picture is becoming more and more important now that the number of home batteries is growing fast. In the first half of 2026, as many as 30,856 new batteries were registered, a record number.

Do you also have to report your home battery to your insurer?

Whether you also have to report your home battery to your insurer depends on your policy conditions. According to the Dutch Association of Insurers, there's no standard arrangement, and insurers set their own requirements for installation, reporting, maintenance and documentation.

So read through your home or contents insurance policy and get in touch if you're unsure. You can read exactly what's covered in our article on insuring a home battery.

Do you have to register a home battery in Belgium?

Yes, in Belgium too you have to register a home battery in most cases, just not via Energieleveren.nl. In Flanders you do this with grid operator Fluvius, and a permanently connected unit needs to be inspected in advance in accordance with the AREI, the General Regulation on Electrical Installations. You report a plug-in battery within 30 days of first use if the combined inverter power in your home is 800 watts or more, or if you still have an analog meter.

In addition, the seller has to report the battery modules and their serial numbers to Bebat, the Belgian organization for the collection and recycling of batteries. Using the serial number, you can check whether this has been done, because an unreported battery can lead to extra costs when it's replaced. Brussels and Wallonia have their own rules, which you can ask your grid operator about.

Choosing a home battery at TechPunt

At TechPunt you'll find home batteries from Zendure and Anker SOLIX, from compact plug-in models to expandable systems with a fixed connection. The product pages list the power output and capacity, two of the values you'll enter during registration.

Not sure which system fits your home? We're happy to help you figure it out by phone, email or WhatsApp. We ship your battery straight from our own warehouse in Barneveld.

Veelgestelde vragen over het aanmelden van een thuisbatterij

Does registering a home battery cost money?

No, registering a home battery doesn't cost anything: registration on Energieleveren.nl is free. Costs only arise if you outsource the registration to a party that charges for it.

Is your installer allowed to register your home battery?

Yes, your installer may register your home battery on your behalf with your permission. The responsibility still lies with you as the owner, so check whether the registration has actually been completed.

How do you know if your home battery is registered correctly?

You know your home battery is properly registered when it appears in your overview of installations on Energieleveren.nl with the correct power output and capacity. If it's missing, the registration isn't complete and you'll need to go through the steps again.

Do you also need to register a portable power station?

No, you usually don't have to register a power station, because you don't permanently connect it to your home's wiring and it doesn't feed power back to the grid. You use a power station as a standalone power source, for example while camping or during a power outage. If you do connect it to your home with a grid coupling and it can feed power back, then the same rules apply as for a home battery.

Do you need to register solar panels and a home battery separately?

Yes, you register solar panels and a home battery separately, as two installations on Energieleveren.nl. If you've already registered your solar panels, you add the battery as a new installation at the same address.

Great company, very pleasant!

During the Early Bird I ordered an Anker Solis Max AC. Communication with the company, especially with Rico, was really pleasant as a customer. Rico kept me well informed about the delivery and was happy to think along with me. After arranging the delivery, I was even offered a free fixed connection so I could hook up the home battery via a wired connection. Absolutely great, of course. In short: a really nice company where service and thinking along with the customer are still held in high regard. Keep it up!

Great webshop

I placed an order with TechPunt and the order and payment went smoothly. I had selected a pickup point, but that wasn't visible in my account. The delivery via DHL didn't go well at first, but it was later sorted out just fine and I received my order neatly at home. Unfortunately it turned out to be the wrong color, but that can happen and still needs to be resolved, though I'm sure it'll be fine. My experience with TechPunt is positive because everything went clearly and quickly, and if there's any issue it gets resolved neatly and fast.

Very pleasant way of communicating, they respond quickly (enough)

Found and purchased the Anker Solix MAX pro through Techpunt. I asked a few technical questions beforehand, which were answered neatly - with the help of AI. They also helped think through the technical setup of the home installation. And proactively so when it came to my question about backup power.

Excellent!

Contact via email went smoothly and clearly. Agreements were kept nicely and they even did their best to arrange extra benefits! If I do have to give a point for improvement, the way the payment went is a bit odd. I received a payment link for Mollie via email. It worked fine, but I'd still prefer to do that through my TechPunt page. I'm also still missing the final invoice for the product itself.

Fast delivery

Good value for second hand Xiaomi Pro 2 scooter. Ordered Sunday, arrived in Ireland on Saturday. Had to rerun brake cable, as outer sleeve was 2 cm away from rear caliper barrel adjuster. Didn't receive an email telling me the parcel had been dispatched nor any tracking details.

Good store, fast delivery

I bought 3 fans, and they arrived perfectly on time. Unfortunately I haven't had time to start using them yet, so I can't rate the devices just yet. The store, on the other hand, is here to stay, I hope.

Great, well-organized site, fast delivery and great products just as described. Something I also loved was the packaging - the suction cups neatly in a suitable box instead of just thrown into a bag. So all the products arrived in perfect condition.
