The latest generation of robotic vacuum cleaners: Xiaomi Vacuum 5 and 5 Pro

Xiaomi has launched the latest generation of robotic vacuum cleaners: the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 and 5 Pro. With this launch, Xiaomi takes another step forward in smart home products and we see that they continue to focus on innovation, ease of use and powerful performance.

The new models promise not only improved suction power, but also smarter navigation and additional features that make cleaning even easier. Where the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 focuses on reliable performance in everyday use, the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 Pro adds advanced AI technologies for those who want to get the most out of a robot vacuum.

In this blog, we take you through the main innovations, the differences between the two models and find out which robot vacuum is best for your household.

Key innovations in the Vacuum 5 series

This Xiaomi Vacuum 5 series can be seen as the successor to the Xiaomi X20 Max, a robot vacuum in the same price category. Whereas the latter model was very popular thanks to its premium specifications, such as powerful suction and many smart features, Xiaomi takes it one step further with the Vacuum 5 series. With improved suction power, more advanced sensors and expandable parts, Xiaomi is positioning this new line as the standard for households looking to combine convenience and performance.

One major improvement is the greatly increased suction power: from 8,000 Pa in the X20 Max to a whopping 20,000 Pa in the Vacuum 5 series. This effortlessly removes dust, crumbs and stubborn dirt from carpets and crevices. The brush technology has also been updated. The main brush has an anti-clit function that instantly cuts (animal) hairs, making clogs in the nozzle a thing of the past. Combined with the extendable side brush and mop cloth, the robot keeps running smoothly, the mop and brush extending past walls and baseboards, so no corner is missed.

In terms of navigation and obstacle detection, the Vacuum 5 series introduces the dToF Smart Retractable Radar. This is because most robot vacuums have the sensors on the top, protruding several inches. This retractable radar module makes it possible to clean even under furniture only 9.5 centimeters high, without damaging the sensor. Combined with S-Cross obstacle detection and real-time laser navigation, the robot chooses the most efficient route through the home each time. This minimizes collisions and jams, even in homes with lots of furniture or complicated layouts.

Ease of maintenance is also greatly improved. The Vacuum 5 Series' smart all-in-one base station goes beyond just automatic emptying: it washes mop cloths with hot water up to 80 degrees, dries them with hot air, preventing unpleasant odors or mold. This is a very big upgrade over previous models. Thanks to the spacious water tank and dust collection, you hardly have to worry about maintenance - emptying, for example, is only required once every 75 days!

Finally, Xiaomi takes ease of use to the next level with smart features and automation. The robot automatically recognizes carpets and lifts mop cloths to prevent moisture stains. Through the Xiaomi Home app, you can easily set cleaning schedules, create multiple floor plans for different floors or define virtual walls. Prefer hands-free? Then the Vacuum 5 series also works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

What does the 5 Pro do differently?

The Xiaomi Vacuum 5 Pro is basically identical to the 5 in almost all parts, except that it has a triple AI camera on the front. This camera provides some super handy features;

  • Object recognition & differentiation
The cameras (one standard and two infrared) can recognize more than 200 types of objects through AI. These include socks, shoes, cables, toys and much more.
The cameras also recognize 47 different categories of dirt. Because the vacuum can distinguish liquids, powder and crumbs, it intelligently responds to the type of dirt it encounters.

  • Smart cleaning strategy
Because the robot recognizes what type of dirt or object it sees, it can adjust the vacuuming mode and mopping strategy. For example, with light crumbs on a hard floor, it can work more economically, while with stubborn dirt in a corner, the suction power goes up.

  • Better Obstacle Detection & Collision Avoidance
The cameras help identify obstacles faster and more accurately, so the robot is less likely to collide or get stuck. Combined with infrared and laser technology, navigation works optimally.

  • Panoramic View & 360° Overview
The three cameras work together to create a wider field of view, giving the robot a panoramic view of its surroundings. This allows it to estimate more quickly which route is efficient.

  • Low light performance & night vision (infrared support)
The infrared cameras also help when the light is dim or at night, allowing the robot to continue to "see" better in dark conditions.

What version fits your purpose?

Choose the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 if you want a premium robot vacuum for a nice price. With this, you have all the features you want; high suction power, convenient base station, smart radar technology and much more. This is all you need to keep your floors at home clean daily without having to keep adjusting.

If you want that extra smartness and love the latest tech in your home, go for the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 Pro. This gives you both the same features as the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 and a smart Triple AI camera, which makes the Xiaomi Vacuum 5 Pro work optimally.
